REG: The Exam That Made Me Question Everything

I took REG today. And I actually wanted to cry walking out of the testing center.

I spent six weeks going through the material with minimal distractions. There were a few days I fell behind, but I made sure I always caught up. My exam was scheduled for Saturday and I finished my last lecture the Monday before. Tuesday through Friday were all about review. MCQs. I don’t tend to do a lot of SIMs review and that may have been my downfall on this exam.

In total I completed about 550 MCQs during my review week which made out to about a third of the total question bank in my study program. I’m not sure I ever felt completely prepared, but I don’t think we ever truly do going into these exams.

I questioned myself so much during the test and that’s something everyone always tells you not to do. “Go with your first choice.” “Trust your gut.” Right up until you’re not sure if that charitable contribution you added in even should be included in AGI and you’re trying your absolute best to recall the lecture you watched three weeks ago and the two practice questions you answered during review.

It was tough. Probably the first exam I felt absolutely awful after and I’m not really sure if I passed or not. But the good thing about these exams: you may not know exactly what to study to pass next time, but you find out what your weak areas are. And as a candidate and an upcoming professional, having the opportunity to improve on your weaknesses is part of the growth that not only gets you to the CPA license, but builds your professional expertise.

So as I sit here watching my little one run through the pumpkin patch, I’m content with REG. If I have to retake it, I will and I will go at it with the same amount of fire as I did today. Okay, maybe a little bit more. But in the meantime…..FAR, you’re up.
